I’ve known Alex Funkhauser and his staffing team at Sherlock Technology Staffing for years.  They have been recruiting South Florida technology people for as long as I can remember.  Alex also keeps a calendar of events.  It contains numerous South Florida networking events which techies can use to meet people in that field.
If IT is your field and you are interested in networking with South Florida,  frequent Alex’s site for events you should attend.

Among a bunch of other great material at GMA Job Club with Tory Johnson, you have two articles describing how to use Facebook, Tweeter, Linkedin, and other social networking sites in your job hunts.  They are Tweet You Way to a New Job and A Luddite’s Guide to LinkedIn.  Both provide great advice.
On a similar note, I read through Kevin Kermes “How to Get the Job You Want.”  Now I read a lot of  job search and career change material and with a title like that, I expected  information like I’ve read in a dozen …

While teaching at Miami-Dade College Wolfson Campus this morning, I ran into a representative of Disney’s college internship programs. All the literature they shared with me say, “PAID INTERNSHIPS.” The rep told me the program runs through the summer and fall semesters at both their Orlando and Los Angeles locations. Sounds like it might be something worth checking out. Get more information at www.disneycollegeprogram.com.

Before he saw me coming around the separator for a face to face confession, Fr. Eddy started aloud with his prayers. When he saw it was me he stopped, “Jorge, how are you? How are you and your family?” He wore his usual smile and, as always, slowly articulated his words. We had known each other for years— so long he had baptized two of my daughters who were now 18 and 12.
“How is your new position?” He recited – slowly.
“It’s going really well,” I replied. “Times are tough, but …

I met the author and career coach Jeannette Kraar at a local chamber meeting. A few weeks later we met for coffee. A month or so later I was speaking at her Executnet chapter in Ft. Lauderdale. She has a contagious spunk and enthusiasm that comes across in her writing.
Her book is similar to the section of What Color Is Your Parachute? 2010: A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers that helps you find the right job for you. I found it better than Parachute
on this topic because …

Losing your job is traumatic. You may have lost your ability to provide for your family. It brings on financial stress. It comes with feelings of betrayal, shame and guilt all at the same time. If you relied on your work to bring purpose and significance to your life, that was taken away from you. You are now left with finding a way to fill the emptiness. You may be asking yourself. “Who am I? Why am I here? Why am I alive?” All these can lead to anxiety, depression, …
