I have been a long time user of Linkedin.com and use techniques like the ones recommended in the reprinted article by Mary Elizabeth Bradford to promote Career Jockey and myself. She provides a quick overview for how to make use of Linkedin.com to get yourself noticed and use it to help get yourself back to work.
Have you secretly been wondering what all the hoopla is over social networking sites liked LinkedIn…but been too afraid to ask? Or perhaps you are in the midst of a job search and know …

Can you make use of Weight Watchers and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) peer support features to help run your job hunt, career or life in general? Keith Ferrazzi author of best seller “Never Eat Alone” says, “Yes!”

I first heard about his book “Who’s Got Your Back” when my wife saw a Ferrazzi’s interview on “Good Morning America.” The same day a business contact mentioned the interview as well. Then my boss forwarded me a link to his interview on Larry King. Something’s up so I figured …

I’ll be doing a review of Keith Ferrazzi’s book “Who’s Got Your Back?” soon. I’ll also be giving a presentation on forming Job Hunt Clubs this Thursday. In that presentation I’ll be using information I drew from this book. In this Larry King interview, Ferrazzi talks about the book and the “lifeline relationships” he recommends we develop. Ferrazzi is really on to something here. These are people you enlist to help you accomplish your goals. They are people who will speak to you with candor …

Ferrazzi’s author of “Whose Got Your Back” appeared on “Good Morning, America” promoting his his book this morning. You can listen to the GMA story at this link. In this new book, the author of “Never Eat Alone” is saying that we all need “lifeline relationships” that can help launch us towards our goals. Friends very often aren’t willing to be completely honest with us. Sometimes even our spouses are hesitant to be completely sincere.
Ferrazzi is promoting this grouping of individuals, and GMA created a test group …

I listened to an episode of the Career Joy podcast with Francis Cole Jones, the author of “How to Wow: Proven Strategies for Selling Your [Brilliant] Self in Any Situation” and it provided some very specific and insightful ideas on how to come across as effective as possible in any situation. And you don’t have to have an IPOD to hear it. You can play it right off the website at www.careerjoy.com/podcast. You can also find links there for uploading it into your player.

I just received a invitation for Kevin Kermes’ online event on personal branding. It will be held on May 22. He’ll be hosting Jessi LaCosta creator of the Insight-Insync™ method of personal branding. I’ve followed Kevin’s efforts over the past several months and he provides some solid advice.
This is likely to be a valuable webinar for you to attend. I’ve included it on the Career Jockey Calendar of Events.

Just added a number of activities to the Calendar of Events page. The events are from multiple sources, but all are good networking opportunities designed for out of work folks.
There’s a networking event tomorrow at Nikki Beach (worse case you can take a walk on the beach), Back on Track Tues and Thur meetings in South Dade, and a career fair June 4th.
I’ll be working to keep this current with in-person South Florida events and online events for anyone across the globe.

Pocket Resumes: Who Would Have Thought?

I was checking out the alumni Linkedin group for a former employer of mine and read someone commenting on pocket resumes.  “Pocket resume?” I asked myself.  “What an interesting concept?”
What is it?  It’s a resume the size of a business card that’ll fit in your shirt or pant pocket.  It’s ideal for  networking events.   I’m going to research these pocket resumes a bit and get back to you.
I hope to shed light on what I think can be an ideal tool for job hunters wanting to get their message across.  …

I’ve known Alex Funkhauser and his staffing team at Sherlock Technology Staffing for years.  They have been recruiting South Florida technology people for as long as I can remember.  Alex also keeps a calendar of events.  It contains numerous South Florida networking events which techies can use to meet people in that field.
If IT is your field and you are interested in networking with South Florida,  frequent Alex’s site for events you should attend.

Among a bunch of other great material at GMA Job Club with Tory Johnson, you have two articles describing how to use Facebook, Tweeter, Linkedin, and other social networking sites in your job hunts.  They are Tweet You Way to a New Job and A Luddite’s Guide to LinkedIn.  Both provide great advice.
On a similar note, I read through Kevin Kermes “How to Get the Job You Want.”  Now I read a lot of  job search and career change material and with a title like that, I expected  information like I’ve read in a dozen …

I met the author and career coach Jeannette Kraar at a local chamber meeting. A few weeks later we met for coffee. A month or so later I was speaking at her Executnet chapter in Ft. Lauderdale. She has a contagious spunk and enthusiasm that comes across in her writing.
Her book is similar to the section of What Color Is Your Parachute? 2010: A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers that helps you find the right job for you. I found it better than Parachute
on this topic because …

Job Seekers: Never Eat Alone Guides My Networking Approach

Keith Ferrazzi’s Never Eat Alone: And Other Secrets to Success, One Relationship at a Time was recommended to me several years back by a fellow salesman that attended my lead sharing group. Ferrazzi is a great writer vividly describing how his father enabled him to break with his blue collar background by networking profusely on his behalf. Ferrazzi ended up attending a prep school well beyond his parents means, gaining the benefits that come by knowing the well off parents of his peers (he became a caddy), attending Yale …
